The two different heads (Long and Short) has been designed with density compensation, meaning as you move up the front taper and into the belly, the line becomes gradually less dense. This puts the very tip of your fly line the deepest in the water column, improving strike detection, and keeping the belly portion out of the fishing zone.
There’s a slight color change in this line, as the front head is colored with a muted blue that will still be unobtrusive and not stand out in the water, with the rear taper and running line transition into a greyish/black color.

Taper
The Striper Long taper gives the angler the perfect mix of accuracy paired with the aggressiveness to combat high wind conditions and deliver long pinpoint casts. The front end of the taper has a gradual step up, which allows for delicate presentations without slapping down to the water. This front taper then steps up into the heaviest part of the line 10ft back which allows for powerful casts that will turn over and punch through the wind. Having this paired with a more elongated belly and gradual rear taper this line will still shoot line effortlessly but will allow you to carry line for longer casts with ease. The longer overall head design also makes it much easier to pick up more line off the water and shoot right back out, for more shots on moving fish.
Core
The Striper series of lines uses our new semi-stiff low-stretch saltwater core. The minimal stretch allows for excellent sensitivity and powerful hook-sets while still allowing to anneal/straighten the line easily with a simple hand stretch. This added stiffness will also help retain the character of the line in extreme heat.
Coating
The Striper lines use our advanced STS coating system. With its game changing slickness formula uniformly built into the coating, the slick properties will never wear off, maintaining that superb line shooting ability. STS also reduces salt build-up, extending maximum performance in between cleanings. You will notice a slight color change in this line, as the front head is colored with a muted blue that will still be unobtrusive and not stand out in the water, with the rear taper and running line transition into a greyish/black color. This color transition will help the angler see when to pick up their line and make a recast when the front head is back to the rod tip.
Line Weights
All Striper lines are weighted a full-size heavy for AFFTA standards. This is to help better load the faster action rods and give you the punching power you will need when fishing for Stripers off the coast or from shore. You can see the weight ranges in the chart pictured here (weights are measured from the first 30 ft of the head).

Black, anti-glare, strike indicators provide more contrast and are easier to see than other colors in highly reflective lighting situations. We’ve found that black indicators work well when the sun is lower on the horizon or under overcast skies that are reflecting on the water. For situations where the indicator is moving from water with a dark refection into an area with high glare we recommend putting two indicators on the line, one black and one chartreuse or white. The white or chartreuse indicator is easy to see in the dark area and the black indicator is easier to see in the high glare area. For example, we pared a medium black indicator with a small chartreuse indicator.

TFO Blue Water SG Rods

Designed by Jake Jordan specifically for the demands of offshore fly fishing, these rods combine the ability to quickly deliver large flies accurately and to then sustain the significant lifting force necessary to fight and land large pelagic species.
The foundation of the SG Series is a hybrid blank engineered with a carbon fiber upper section and a proprietary S-Glass weave in the lower section of the rod. The carbon fiber upper section underpins the efficient casting action and tip recovery necessary for fast, on-target casts; and after hookup, the S-Glass lower section delivers superb strength and a shortened lever capable of dead lifting over 10 pounds at a 90-degree fighting angle. The Bluewater series helped Jake land over 10,000 billfish on fly and, in the process, it has become the most widely used blue water fly rod in the world.
For 2023, we have updated the reel seat to a fully anodized aluminum seat, and extended the handle on the Light-Duty, (LD) model.
We’ve kept the same basic and proven actions with carbon fiber tips for ease of casting that blends into S Glass butts for powerful lifting. A brilliant addition is our use of Axiom II single filament S Glass applications within the walls of the blank – a pattern that controls and smooths ovaling. Actions are smoother and power range is greater. We know you will appreciate the difference.
The Baby rod is finished out with composite cork split grips, traditional snake and stripper guides and is 9-foot, four-piece. The 9-foot Light Duty, 8 ½’ four-piece Mid Duty and Heavy Duty rods are finished with a single lengthened composite cork fore-grip that allows one to adjust top hand placement when fights can take an hour or more. Further, they feature full aluminum oxide insert double-foot guides along the blank for increased durability and strength and an aluminum oxide tip top.
