Umpqua Fly Emerger Wet
SKU: NFD9868
Sizes 16 (BWO) and 18 (PMD)
“I created the BARR EMERGER in 1975 after a frustrating day fishing a Pale Morning Dun hatch on Nelson’s Spring Creek in Paradise Valley outside Livingston Montana.
There was a great hatch, and it seemed like every fish in the creek was rising to them. I was frustrated because not only was the Light Cahill I was fishing catching nothing, the trout were not even taking the real duns.
They were eating little yellow specs off the surface. I was baffled. I saw a trout “accidentally” eat a real dun, which it promptly spit out. It was obvious these trout had eaten duns that had hooks in them and learned to avoid high floating dry flies.
At my vise that night I created the PMD EMERGER. I am still fishing it to this day as well as a BWO version.”

Umpqua Fly Fast Water Drake
SKU: NFD9839
Green and Grey
Size 10
I’ve been using this pattern for 10 years or more.
On the Deschutes we have a hatch of green drakes that hatch on the fastest rapids you can find, almost class 2 rapids where these things will pop up and hatch.
A lot of the classic green drake patterns that are out there that are designed for other rivers, especially slower rivers, don’t really work on the Deschutes because they just don’t float very well.
So I tried to come up with a fly that floated really well but still looked like a green drake without getting too big or too crazy.

Umpqua Fly Film Critic Quigley
SKU: NFD9840
BWO, PMD and Callibaetis
Sizes: 14 to 20
Bob Quigley, the king of the “film” designed the Film Critic to match mayflies at their most vulnerable stage of the hatch, while emerging from nymph to dun. Mayfly emergers are often stuck in the film for quite some time making them easy prey which is why trout often feed on them in a leisurely manner. This fact can also account for the very picky nature of trout when feeding on them. Bob designed this fly with all of the key attributes that trigger fish to eat during this stage…shuck & tail, low-riding body, sparse hackle, prominent wing (both for trout and angler).

Umpqua Fly Foam Spinner Mathews Green Drake
SKU: NFD9858
Size 12
“This spinner evolved a few years back on the Yellowstone River. The cutthroat trout there can be extremely tough to fool late in the season, and we needed a fly that would float well, present the proper silhouette, and would not twist fine tippets even 5 and 6x necessary for success.
Casting a large spinner on fine tippets is a recipe for tippet disaster so we decided to use hackle to imitate the wings on this fly. It minimizes twisting while maintaining the perfect spinner profile. And, a large hook always needs help floating, especially when the fly is sparse in design.
That’s why we decided on closed cell foam over the wings that gives additional floatation while allowing the perfect fly outline. A standard tail and dubbed body complete this deadly spinner pattern.”
