Umpqua Fly Chewy’s Tarponator Chouinard
SKU: NFD9685
“The Tarponator may be one of the most productive tarpon flies you will ever cast.
Developed on the West Coast of Florida, on some of the most pressured migratory fish, it has proven itself to be your “go to” pattern.
The slimy, wiggly action will immediately get your attention.
It is easy to cast, doesn’t foul and has low bulk to ensure great hook-ups. This proven silhouette and action justifies having it in multiple colors.”

Umpqua Fly Crimp McKnights Tan
SKU: NFD9774
It’s a “marriage made in heaven”. This is a go getter for its intended quarry of bonefish, redfish and permit. If it eats shrimp or crabs, the fish will eat this fly. Crabs garner most of the press for taking permit, but many know firsthand that permit love to eat pugnacious mantis shrimp as well, and will take them on the strip. Increasingly, Yucatan permit have been getting hooked on mantis shrimp patterns.
This fly will fish well “in motion” or simply undulating stationary on the bottom. It lands surprisingly softly even with the lead eyes. It can be fished in skinny water or depths to four feet. Cast, like any crab, as close to the prey as possible, allow it to glide toward the bottom.
With its thin legs and craft fur it will move even when sitting completely still. Yet
it has proven itself to be equally effective on a slow steady strip retrieve. Two prey forms, crab and shrimp, fished successfully with two different methods
all for multiple species. And those neon green eyes seem to be looking back at you.

Umpqua Fly Danger Muffin Crab McKnight Ghost
SKU: NFD9677
“Going back more than 10 years ago, I got invited by a good friend and client to Guanaja, Honduras for a weeklong DIY saltwater trip and sat down to tie some permit flies for the trip.
I had talked with a bunch of people that had been down there to fish and researched all kinds of crab photos.
With all the standard stuff I began to play around with a more imitative Reef Crab imitation. Looking for a more mixable alternative to wool, I tried using rabbit instead- which ended up working nicely. By adding in some deer hair, we got a fantastic, mottled effect.
Long story short, ended up with two DIY permit that week on that initial olive version. Over the past few years, we have had this fly do very well everywhere, Bahamas, Belize, Mexico, even made some in roads with a handful of Florida Keys guides.
When Pat Cohen came out with the laser cut claws I played around with a few and thought they looked like a great fit. After fishing with them, I am convinced they work even better.”

Umpqua Fly Gotcha Pearl
SKU: NFD9679
The GOTCHA is one of the best known bonefish flies of all time. Designed somewhat by happenstance in the Bahamas. As the story goes, Jim McVay while traveling in a Bahamian taxi decided to clip some carpet fibers on the way to his room. Using the carpet to tie up some flies for the next day’s fishing. After several days of catching plenty of bonefish with his new creation his guide began saying “GOTCHA” every time he hooked up. This one is a must have in any bonefish selection.

Umpqua Fly Gummy Minnow Big Game Pearl
SKU: NFD9688
The Gummy Minnow takes a contemporary approach. Made from a new soft, reflective material called “Sili Skin”, the similarities between this fly and a real baitfish are endless. Anglers find success targeting bonito & false albacore, as well as stripers, snook, and more. This fly is the preferred choice by many fishermen to imitate Silversides and Bay Anchovy baitfish for the fall run of bonito and false albacore that happens from the mid-atlantic up to New England in the United States in late summer & fall. If you want to use these for tarpon, then we highly recommend this size option as this big brother is tied on a TMC 600SP.
