Diamondback’s Aeroflex Salt reels are heavily ported five-axis machined reels with smart design features for optimal performance on the water. Developed over two full seasons of rigorous field testing and machining adjustments, the Aeroflex Salt reels are a smooth and powerful match for the most demanding species in Saltwater and Freshwater. Available in 7/8 and 9/10 sizes that cover the popular larger line weights, Aeroflex Salt reels feature a heavy-duty enclosed frame beautifully anodized in aqua blue, while the spool and drag knob are polished chrome aluminum, featuring an aqua blue “diamond fish” logo on the drag hub and spool retainer.

The wide, oversized drag knob with a raised surface can be easily gripped and turned without looking, helping you focus on the fish when the fight requires you to quickly release or apply additional drag pressure. The powerful enclosed drag column provides smooth force well beyond saltwater applications, so you will never run out of stopping power when you need it, and the vented drag column prevents water retention in the drag while wet. Aeroflex Salt reels feature a light audible click on the retrieve and when the drag is engaged. All Aeroflex reels feature a one-way clutch bearing that can be flipped to switch the retrieve from left hand to right hand.

The Diamondback Ideal Nymph reel is a complex five-axis machined reel with a 40-gram adjustable weight system designed to optimize the performance that tactical nymph anglers require from a fly reel. Ideal Nymph reel designs reflect years of experience fishing nymph techniques and dealing with the problems and challenges that fishing long European style leaders can present. Every aspect of how an angler interacts with a nymphing reel has been carefully considered during the design of Ideal Nymph reels, with top competitive anglers providing their insight and suggestions.

A five-axis CNC machined, closed frame provides an ultra-smooth rounded surface to protect ultra-thin fly lines and micro leaders when line is pulled off the reel at any speed from any angle!
Large diameter spool spins easily with one quick turn — allowing several feet of line to be picked up very quickly — particularly with the larger 3/4 model designed to put fish on the reel with one quick spin of the spool in most nymphing circumstances.
An extra narrow gap and diameter tolerance between the frame and spool which minimizes the potential for line getting caught between those surfaces at any time.
Exposed rim to allow line pick-up by “batting” the outside rim (similar to a center pin reel function) or manipulate manual pressure while fighting a fish with a lighter drag setting.

The difference with the Aeroflex Freshwater series rod blanks is they are designed utilizing technology developed to meet the performance and durability challenges of the tactical nymph rod market. Each blank in the lineup was designed with numerous iterations of changes over nearly 2 years of development, with the goal being comfortable fishing and casting rods that generate high performance for a wide spectrum of casting styles and popular line choices. They are dynamic fishing tools that will achieve smooth and accurate casts at common fishing distance, but have a hidden reserve power revealed when pushing a long cast into the wind or fighting a bigger fish. Oversized SeaGuide titanium frame stripper guides start at the base of the mid-butt on most models, with the guide located on top of the ferrule overlap for increased strength and reserve power.

Aeroflex Salt rods are a carefully crafted series of high-performance fly rods, ranging from 7wt to 11wt, that have been developed over two full years of our fishing-focused design process. Aeroflex Salt rod designs feature actions driven by an acute awareness of popular lines, leaders, fly patterns, and fishing styles commonly associated with each line weight. That means having the right amount of tip power to quickly form a loop and turn over your leader making a quick cast with a weighted crab at a target in the wind. Or having the proper wall thickness and material composition and guide placement to deliver when that big albie is digging under the boat in 3-5′ waves as a fall storm moves up the coast.

Great fishing rods must incorporate durability with performance, and Aeroflex Salt rods have optimal material choices combined with unique expansion concepts that allow for a lightweight product with incredible performance and outstanding durability. Each Aeroflex Salt model has a different blend of carbon fibers, with an increasing presence of S-Glass in the lower sections of the larger models 9-11wt for lifting strength. Rods feature carefully selected, premium oversized black anodized snake guides with SeaGuide Titanium frame steep angled dual foot stripping guides, with optimal guide placement and wrap strategies to reinforce strength and durability.

The Ideal Nymph range is a series of tactical nymphing rods that has been thoughtfully designed in every possible aspect to be the most effective and pleasant feeling nymphing tools. The rods have a non-glare matte finish, down-locking matte titanium color hardware with high density premium quality cork grips, Curly Koa wood spacers and compact fighting butts. Rod accents include dark amber color primary wraps and titanium metallic accent wraps. Guide selection and placement on nymphing rods is critical to performance, and Ideal Nymph rods have the right components in the right places. The 1wt, 2wt, and 3wt models for both 10′ and 10’10” lengths are outfitted with three snake guides below the rod tip, which helps counter leader-wrapping problems with long leaders. The 10’10” 4wt and 6wt models have three single foot guides below the rod tip. Two lightweight single foot stripping guides create a smoother surface at the most critical contact areas while the rod is heavily flexed fighting a fish. Dark colored single foot guides cover the area between the snake guides and the stripper guides. Guide placement is optimized with a stripping guide on the butt section to minimize potential line sag. Ideal Nymph blanks are designed to maximize recovery speed and feel, while still flexing enough to load with mono rigs and lightweight nymphs. All Ideal Nymph rods have a firm backbone that allows for a quick hookset and great fish retention, while having the smooth power transition that allows anglers to apply firm pressure to fish without fear of breaking light tippets.
