    4.25

    Umpqua Fly Jiggy Scud Mercer
    SKU: NFD9890

“Because they have a tungsten bead, they plummet quickly, with even small versions getting down fast.

I typically fish them beneath an indicator, either as the bottom fly below a larger pattern, or in tandem with a second scud of a different size and color, or, two to three feet under a Chubby Chernobyl in a dry/dropper rig.

Because of the tungsten beads, they even work well for Euro-nymphing. However you like to nymph, give these a try…I am finding they work well even in streams that have no scuds!”

  • Umpqua Fly Scud Bomb Mylant

    Umpqua Fly Scud Bomb Mylant
    SKU: NFD9832

    Size: 12 and 14
    Colours: Rainbow and Olive

“A scud pattern with a bead in the middle isn’t anything new. However, when you alter the bead to a jig bomb it immediately changes the performance of the fly.

Using a technique I call “posting the bead” which secures the bead to the top of the hook shank. This ensures the fly will always ride hook point up allowing you to drift it right over rocks and logs.

Jig bombs are also heavier than countersunk or slotted beads, so they provide a faster sink rate.

This fly was specifically designed to act as the primary source of weight on a nymph rig and excels as an anchor fly on a tight line/euro system or a lead fly/attractor on a traditional indicator rig while maintaining the classic curved scud profile.

You won’t find a fly with this much weight that looks more scud-like.

It has been my go-to scud pattern for small streams, larger rivers, man-made reservoirs, and high alpine lakes.

If you aren’t a fan of using split shot this is a fly you’ve got to try.”

    Umpqua Fly Sexy Walts
    SKU: NFD9885

Size 12 in Oliver or Hare’s Ear with 3,5mm bead

These flies just work – don’t let their simplicity fool you. The Sexy Walts brings a little flash to a classic hairs ear variation.

This fly works as a great imitation of a variety of flies like a crane fly, march brown, caddis, stonefly, or sow bug.

But really it is just a great attractor pattern that fish can find and grab onto. Tied with a tungsten bead to help get down and dirty this is a go to fly for anglers around the country.

  • Umpqua Fly X Caddis Mathews

    Umpqua Fly X Caddis Mathews
    SKU: NFD9853

    Size: 14 and 16
    Colours: Olive and Tan

“We came up with the X Caddis thirty-five plus fishing seasons ago. Like many of our fly patterns, this one was created to fool the larger resident rainbow trout of the Henry’s Fork.

It was my wife Jackie’s idea to tie a trailing-shimmering, sparkling shuck on a caddis imitation. Her reasoning was simple, if super-selective trout took Sparkle Duns with their trailing shuck for emerging and crippled mayflies why wouldn’t the same thing work with caddis imitations too?

We know that caddis, like mayflies, can experience difficulties emerging from their pupal shucks at times. Many end up trapped in their shucks entirely or with the shucks trailing off their body and wings fully emerged.

Fish may not always key in on cripples or impaired adults, but we’ve found this fly works well, in fact much better than standard ties like the Elk Hair Caddis. We fish it as a dry fly, upstream, dead-drifting is the most productive method, casting to individual fish that are rising.

The fly also works well when pulled under the surface in front of rising trout and allowed to pop to the surface.”
