  • Umpqua Fly Barrick’s Bubble

    Umpqua Fly Barrick’s Bubble
    SKU: NFD9823

“The Barrick’s Bubble fly concept originated while observing trout behavior on the Dream Stream of the South Platte River.

Despite prolific hatches of tricos, PMD’s, and BWO’s, trout often fed subsurface while insects fell to the surface.

To address this, I experimented with materials to mimic both emerging insects and drowned adults.

The first bubble fly was used successfully while guiding on the Dream Stream during a trico hatch.

It became my go-to pattern for various hatches, effective when nymphing or trailing behind a dry fly.

Its subtle illumination of the bubble attracts picky trout without deterring pressured fish, making it stand out amidst real insects.

The epoxied egg veil provides a durable shape maintaining profile while being tied on 2488H Tiemco hooks, preventing the smallest of flies from bending while fighting trophy sized trout.”

  • Umpqua Fly Comparadun

    Umpqua Fly Comparadun
    SKU: NFD9835

    Sizes: 16,18 and 20
    Type: BWO and PMD

The Comparadun defines simplicity, but it is a true fish catching machine. It has one of the most beautiful silhouettes in a mayfly imitation of all time. Due to the nature of the tie the fly rides low in the film and the hollow costal deer hair helps to keep the fly afloat. These comparadune’s are best fished for difficult fish in slow currents where a great imitation is a must. We offer this proven pattern in 22’s through 10’s to match BWO’s to Western Green Drakes.

Bob Quigley, the king of the “film” designed the Film Critic to match mayflies at their most vulnerable stage of the hatch, while emerging from nymph to dun. Mayfly emergers are often stuck in the film for quite some time making them easy prey which is why trout often feed on them in a leisurely manner. This fact can also account for the very picky nature of trout when feeding on them. Bob designed this fly with all of the key attributes that trigger fish to eat during this stage…shuck & tail, low-riding body, sparse hackle, prominent wing (both for trout and angler).
